History
Historically, Thokkadu and the
broader Chemmaruthy region were part of the former Kingdom of Travancore. Under
the royal regime, these areas primarily functioned as agrarian tracts known for
traditional paddy cultivation, sacred groves, and spice-yielding plantations
characteristic of the region's rural economy. During the twentieth century, the
landscape experienced systematic land distribution and increased clearing for
residential expansion as migration shaped the region into a populated suburban
locality. The name 'Thokkadu' is rooted in the local topography and historical
linguistic nomenclature of the northern Thiruvananthapuram agrarian belt.
