Sri Chamundi Temple is a 500-year-old shrine located at Karikkakom, a small settlement in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It is about 2 km from Chackai and 7 km west of East Fort.
Dedicated to Goddess Chamundi, this highly revered shrine is believed to be the seat of satyam (truth), dharmam (personal duty) and neethi (justice). It is said that during the rule of Travancore Kings, people who were accused of various crimes pleaded their innocence before the presiding deity.
The main attraction of the temple is a five-storey, 63-feet rajagopuram (royal tower). The tower is marked by meticulously crafted sculptures of gods and goddesses. These figures illustrate episodes from Hindu puranas. An annual pongal festival celebrated here attracts thousands of devotees from far and near.
