Vellanad

Vellanad, the first grama panchayat in India to have a full-fledged Geographic Information System, is a small sleepy village situated 25 km north-east of Thiruvananthapuram city. Covered by rubber plantations, Vellanad and its surroundings are the main points of interest. Mitraniketan, a community based research and experiential learning center is situated here. Vellanad Devi Temple, dedicated to Bhadrakali and Thanjaoor Ammaveedu are situated here.
Vellanad can be reached by bus from Thiruvananthapuram Central Bus Station and City Bus Station.

Vellanad Bus Station

Operated by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, Vellanad Bus Station is situated in the centre of Vellanad. Regular buses are available to Thiruvananthapuram, Kattakada, Nedumangad, East Fort and Aruvikkara. The station operates fast passenger, ordinary, city fast and city ordinary buses.

Vellanad Devi Temple

Vellanad Devi Temple is situated at Vellanad village in Thiruvananthapuram District. The temple lies near Vellanad Vocational Higher Secondary High School, about 20 km away from Thiruvananthapuram. It is devoted to Goddess Bhadrakali. The temple with its holiness and tranquility attracts pilgrims from far and near. An annual festival is celebrated here with great pomp and splendor by the villagers.
