Russelpuram

Russelpuram is a quaint and historically significant residential locality situated near Balaramapuram in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. Located roughly 2 kilometers away from Balaramapuram town, it retains a calm, village-like ambiance characterized by lush greenery and traditional farming practices (such as the cultivation of tapioca, banana, and spinach). Historically known as Njarakadu due to the abundance of Jamun (njara) trees, the area was later renamed Russelpuram in honor of the renowned American Bible scholar and preacher Charles Taze Russell following his historic visit to Travancore.

Major local landmarks include the historic Government UP School Russelpuram (which preserves early portraits and historical connections to Charles Taze Russell and S.P. Davey), the Russelpuram Post Office (PIN 695501), the Russelpuram Library, as well as nearby religious centers such as the Mahadevar Temple and the Eruthavoor Juma Masjid.

Geographically, Russelpuram sits just east/northeast of  Balaramapuram proper, acting as an interconnected pocket close to Perumpazhuthoor and Ooruttambalam. It lies approximately 15 to 17 kilometers southeast of Thiruvananthapuram city center. The nearest major transport links are the Balaramapuram Railway Station along the main regional routes, and the Trivandrum International Airport, which is roughly 18 to 22 kilometers away.
