Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary








Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Neyyattinkara taluk of Thiruvananthapuram. The sanctuary commissioned in 1958, covers an area of 128 sq km and stretches from Neyyattinkara taluk to the Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu. This is the drainage basin for the Neyyar River and its tributaries - Mullayar and Kallar.
A large number of mammals, reptiles and avi fauna are inhabitants of this sancturary. Elephant, gaur, sambar, barking deer, wild boar, Indian porcupine, three-striped squirrel, lion-tailed macaque are among the animals found. A variety of snakes such as cobra, viper, python, rat snake, flying snake, lizard and birds such as mynah, kingfisher, white-breasted water hen, woodpecker, hoopoe inhabit the park.
In the premises of this tranquil sanctuary is the Agastyakoodam hill, the second highest peak in Kerala (1890m). The Lion Safari park and Crocodile farm are the main attractions of the site. The Neyyar reservoir is located nearby this sanctuary.
The best time to visit is November to February. The nearest airport and railway station are at Thiruvananthapuram (32 km).
The Youth Hostel and Rest House at Neyyar, the Inspection Bungalow of the Forest Department, the Dormitory of Irrigation Department, Agasthya House of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and the Rest House at Meenmutty are the places to stay.

Neyyar Dam






Neyyar Dam, established in 1958, is located around 30 km east of Thiruvananthapuram and 38 km from Trivandrum International Airport, at the foot of the Western Ghats. Neyyar, Mullayar and Kallar are the rivers nourishing the dam. Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is nearby. Watch tower, crocodile farm, lion safari park and deer park are the other attractions. Boating can be made in the reservoir. Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantari Ashram is close to Neyyar dam. The site is very well connected by buses from Thiruvananthapuram

Nanniyode

Nanniyode is located in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala and lies near Palode on Thiruvananthapuram - Shenkottai road.
It lies amidst rubber estates and undulating hills. Here the main attraction is Pachayil Sree Dharmasastha Temple devoted to Lord Ayyappa. The Veterinary Biological Institute and the Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute are situated nearby.

Navaikulam

Navaikulam is a village on the National Highway 47, in Thiruvananthapuram District, located between Kallambalam and Paripally. Navaikulam is about 45 km north of Thiruvananthapuram and 25 km south of Kollam. The village is renowned by the presence of Sree Sankaranarayana Temple, locally known as Navaikulam Temple. The famous mosque, Kaduva Palli is about 5 km from here. Tourist destinations such as Varkala, Paravur and Anchuthengu are close to this place.

Palode

Palode, located 35 km from Thiruvananthapuram, on the way to Kuttalam is a small hamlet on the foothills of the Western Ghats. Covered by lush green forests and rubber plantations, Palode and its surroundings feast the eye. The Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals and the Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute are situated here.

Palode Bus Station

Palode Bus Station is situated on the Thiruvananthapuram-Thenmala road ( State Highway 2). Kerala State Road Transport Corporation runs regular buses to Palode. Short distance services are also available to the places such as Attingal, Kilimanoor and Venjaramoodu. The station operates fast passenger and ordinary buses.

Parassala

Parassala / பாரசலா , also spelt Parashala, is one of the prominent towns in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. The place lies about 30 km from Thiruvananthapuram, along the National Highway 47.
The town has numerous churches, temples, mosques, hospitals and educational institutions. Parassala Mahadev Temple, a highly revered shrine located here, was built by Mallen Chembakaraman Delava of Venad royal family. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva.

Parassala Mahadev Temple

Parassala Mahadev Temple is a highly revered shrine located at Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram District of Kerala. It was built by Mallen Chembakaraman Delava of Venad royal family.
The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva. The temple enshrines the idols of Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesh. The local populate also worship nagas here. Pradhosha puja and dhara are the main offerings at the temple.
