The Ponnumthuruthu Shiva-Parvathy Vishnu Temple (Thuruthi Temple) is located on the island of Ponnumthuruthu in the Anchuthengu Lake at Nedunganda, under the Anchuthengu Panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram district.
One of the main deities at the Ponnumthuruthu Shiva-Parvathy Vishnu Temple is Shiva-Parvathy. This idol depicts Lord Shiva bestowing blessings with Goddess Parvathy seated on his left thigh. Lord Mahavishnu is another principal deity. The Mahavishnu temple is situated to the left of the Shiva-Parvathy temple. To the right of the Shiva-Parvathy temple, there is also a shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha. In the Namaskara Mandapam in front of the Shiva-Parvathy temple, there is an idol of Nandi, the sacred mount of Lord Shiva. Amidst the groves near the lake shore, there are two sacred groves (Kavus) housing idols of Nagaraja and Nagayakshi. Of these, one Kavu is associated with Lord Shiva and the second with Lord Mahavishnu. The temple complex has been constructed with modern architectural elegance.
Devotees visit the Ponnumthuruthu Shiva-Parvathy Vishnu Temple in large numbers during Shivaratri and Ayilyam days. Special rituals and offerings are held here on those days. Ayilyam Oottu is conducted at this temple in all months except the months of Mithunam, Karkidakam, and Chingam. Every year on Shivaratri day, a large number of devotees arrive here to offer Pongala. The temple boat transports devotees to the island free of charge.
