The Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College is located in a land area of 11 acres at Iranimuttom Thiruvananthapuram city with building space of over 80000 sq.feet. . The college is under the administrative control of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Kerala. The college that started functioning in 1983 is affiliated to the University of Kerala . There are 12 teaching departments in this college, Six of them, Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry, Pharmacy & Microbiology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology and Community Medicine. The clinical departments are Practice Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Organon of Medicine, Materia Medica and Case taking & Repertorisation. The Central Library has important newspapers and periodicals and there are 14 scientific and medical journals, particularly in Homeopathy. The college has a separate book bank for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes. A 50-bedded inpatient block was started along with the D.P.D which had started functioning earlier.
TheGovt.Homoeopathic Medical College , Thiruvananthapuram started functioning during 1983 as Dr. K. J. Issac, as the Principal. The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala and approved by the Central Council of Homoeopathy under the Department of AYUSH of Government of India. The College is owned by the Government of Kerala. The Five and a half years BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery) degree course was started on the same year. Fifty students are admitted every year for the course. The selection of students for admission is from the common medical entrance test conducted by the Government of Kerala. The BHMS graded degree course was started on 1991 for a period of three years. The three year Post Graduate course (MD (Hom)) in two subjects (Homoeopathic Philosophy and Materia Medica) were started in 1995. In 1996 another PG course in Repertory was added. In the year 2004, Post Graduate courses were started in the subject of Practice of Medicine and Homoeopathic Pharmacy. Six students are admitted to each speciality through the Homoeopathy post graduate entrance test conducted by the Government of Kerala. The one year Nurse cum Pharmacist course is also conducted in the college.
